Removals

We are happy to empty your loft provided it is boarded, there is safe access, a fitted loft ladder and you have discussed this with our surveyor during their visit.

This is very difficult as every household is different and there are many aspects to consider for example quantity, access, distance etc. We offer a free personal survey either by video or a visit from one of our surveyors.

We can transport cars either in the removal van or a trailer.  Alternatively, we can provide staff to drive your car to your new home.

A small chest of drawers containing light items such as clothes can be moved complete, heavier units can usually be transported by removing the drawers and their contents separately. Any heavy items such as books and magazines should be removed and packed into boxes. Self-assembly furniture is generally not strong enough to be moved full of it’s contents, and therefore should be emptied.

It is essential to discuss this with the surveyor so that the necessary resources can be provided. Our removal crews will carry out this work but for specialist dismantling and reassembling we employ our own handy man. However, some flat-pack furniture can be very time consuming and does not benefit from being taken apart.

As our insurers cannot be certain of the condition of the goods prior to packing they cannot cover any damage discovered at a later date. However, if there are visible signs of damage to the box which has obviously occurred during the removal process then the contents wold be covered. This would obviously have to be noted on the delivery document at completion of the move.

We do not stipulate a notice period as it is based on a first come first served basis. However as soon as you have a date for completion check our availability, before confirming with your solicitor.

Most or our customers live in Sussex, we are happy to carry out moves to and from anywhere in the UK and we are specialist movers to all European destinations. As members of Britannia Movers international we can move you worldwide.

Unfortunately, we are unable to transport gas bottles or inflammable liquids as they are not covered by our insurance, so alternative arrangements will need to be made. Equipment such lawn movers and hedge cutters should be drained of all fuel beforehand.

We offer all clients insurance which is provided by one of our trade association’s panel insurers and is specifically designed for household removals. At the surveying stage we ask you for a valuation so we can quote for this service.

We ask for a deposit of £100.00 for each day the removal is planned to take, with the balance payable five working days prior to the removal day. Please note your payment is protected by the Advanced payment guarantee scheme, a benefit of using a BAR (British Association of Removers) Member company.

Generally speaking yes but it is essential to show them to the surveyor, in case special equipment is required. Plants in particular require floor space and therefore quickly fill up a van.

We are happy to pack the full contents of a house, which is normally carried out prior to the removal day. We are also happy to provide boxes for you to pack or a combination of the two. A favourite option is for us to pack breakable items only.

Shredding

All paper and card can be shredded including envelopes with a plastic window but plastic wallets and inserts cannot be included and definitely not any metal clips or binders.

You collect the bags from our Newhaven warehouse and you can have as many as you like.

Each bag is supplied with a security cable tie.

Approximately 16kg

Each bag cost £9.00 including VAT

Yes, we issue destruction certificates.

We do not usually collect bags of shredding but we are happy to quote for this service.

Storage

Our storage is all containerised.  The advantages of this system is your goods are only handled once on loading, we bring the containers (large wooden boxes) in the lorry to your home, load directly into them.  They are then fork lifted off the van and then stowed in the warehouse until you arrange delivery. When they are then fork lifted back on to the lorry and delivered to you new home.

We invoice you monthly in advance, however you only pay for the days you are in store for.  Any credit due is set against the final bill for the removal out of store. You can pay by credit/debit card or online if you are anticipating storing for a long time you may find it easier to pay by direct debit.

There is a minimum cost of one week and no maximum period.

The cost of storage depends solely on the volume to be stored and the number of containers required.

Yes, we can arrange attendance at store, but it must be by appointment only as the containers are stacked and we will have to make your container available to you.  There is a small charge per container, you will have been provided with an inventory of each container so this should help you to locate the correct container. We recommend that you keep important documents with you such as passport, credit cards, driving licence etc!

There are many items which for various reasons are not suitable to stored.  These include:

  • food or perishable goods,
  • living plants or living creatures,
  • illegal goods,
  • toxic waste such as asbestos, chemicals, radio active materials, biological agents,
  • explosives, weapons or ammunition,
  • Combustible or flammable materials or liquids and finally compressed gases.
  • We suggest that alcoholic beverages or liquids of any description are best not stored due to the risk of leakage.

By prior arrangement we are able to store potted plants outside in our yard but do not guarantee to tend them.

Your goods would be stored in one of our purpose built warehouses in Newhaven which we are happy for you to inspect.  They are fitted with burglar and fire alarms and CCTV.

We quote comprehensive storage insurance which is organised by a BAR panel broker and designed specifically for our industry and strongly recommend that this is taken out.

Van Hire

You can take our vehicles on the continent with prior arrangement, additional charges will apply as extra documentation will be required. You will also need to be sure you have appropriate documentation for customs clearance for the goods you are carrying.

This can be arranged in our yard where we have surveillance cameras but it will be parked entirely at your own risk.

The age range under our insurance cover is 23 to 70 years old.

Yes, please see price list available from our Box Shop or reception.

Yes, all our vehicles require a deposit of £250.00 which must be paid on or before the day of hire.  We will refund in full on return of the vehicle provided there is no damage, refuelling cost, taxes and tolls to deduct.

We can only hire a van if you have acquired no more than six points in the last five years.

No limit but please check our Hire agreement. It varies according to type of van.

Insurance is included in the cost of hire, provided you meet our hire agreement criteria.

Firstly, you must let us know as soon as possible as it is likely that the vehicle will have been hired out to another customer. Our contract conditions will be applicable which are as follows: If a vehicle is returned more than one hour late you will be charged at the full rate of another days hire, if returned within the hour a £15.00 penalty will be applied.

Please follow the instructions in the envelope in the glove compartment.

Our vehicles are registered for the Dartford Tunnel and LEZ London which will therefore be deducted from your deposit, other tolls will need to be paid at the time of use.
